Guest Editor’s Note
The three of us studied in the science and engineering track at Taipei First Girls High School. Although we pursued different dreams and followed our own paths, we eventually met again in the world of technology. This issue brings together the academic and career journeys of three young women in STEM, weaving their experiences of growth and pursuing dreams into stories of challenge and inspiration.
In Issue 194’s Feature Report, I share my own journey—from studying music before attending Taipei First Girls High School to shifting my focus toward mathematics, science, and semiconductors. I also discuss my observations of gender interactions as a master’s student at the Institute of Electronics, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
The Career section features Pin-Hsuan Chen, a software engineer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Taiwan. She shares her journey of double-majoring in Management Information Systems and Computer Science at National Chengchi University, along with insights gained from three different software internships in the technology industry.
The Education section is written by Hsin-Le Tsou from the Department of Industrial Design at National Kaohsiung Normal University. She discusses the importance of industrial design education in developing influential professionals and reflects on her path toward the field.
Women’s roles in the technology industry are receiving increasing global attention. The industry includes many outstanding women, such as AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su and Professor Hsiao-Wen Zan, recipient of the Taiwan–France Scientific Grand Prize and author of this issue’s Recommended Article. Professor Zan teaches in the Department of Photonics at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and was also my undergraduate research advisor.
Through this issue’s theme, “Where We Are Now…”, and these personal stories, I hope to inspire girls interested in science to pursue their dreams with courage.
