Dear Subscribers,
At the intersection of globalization and the digital age, our professional lives have extended beyond national borders and across diverse cultural settings. From Silicon Valley technology companies to Taiwan’s industries and professional communities, institutions, values, and working practices vary greatly. For women, establishing a professional position within these environments is often far from automatic.
This issue of the TWiST Newsletter explores the theme “Establishing a Professional Place across Different Cultural Contexts.” Through interviews with women from diverse organizations and backgrounds, we examine how they find their footing amid cultural differences and create new possibilities—both for themselves and others—within existing institutions and cultures.
When encountering differences, may we do more than simply adapt. May we consciously choose the kind of professionals we wish to become.

Editor’s Report
As a woman in technology who is gradually becoming more “senior,” I remain deeply curious about younger generations and frequently remind myself that they represent our hope for the future.
During the pandemic in 2022, I invited Alyssa, creator of Alyssa’s Unconventional Journey from Sociology to Data Science, to speak and lead group discussions at an AI workshop for high school students. She later served as guest editor of Newsletter Issue 184, themed “How Fortunate We Are to Live in an Era with an Active Community of Women in Technology.”
At the end of 2025, Alyssa introduced me to this issue’s guest editor, Wan-Hua Cheng. Active in data science communities, Wan-Hua guides readers through the stories and insights of women whose wisdom is usually hidden behind the data.
We truly are fortunate!
