TWiST Newsletter, July 2026 - Issue 223: Discovering Your Best Self Through Everyday Technology
- Jul 22
- 3 min read

Technology is a tool, but people are the ones who ultimately give it direction and meaning. Women are defining what technology can look like in their own ways. When we look back, perhaps what deserves our greatest pride is not how fast or how far we have traveled, but that we have never forgotten why we began. Nor have we forgotten that, as we work to change the world, our perseverance can inspire others to move forward with courage.

Editor’s Note
Do you like the big surprise we prepared for you? Nine and a half years—and 114 issues—after our previous redesign in January 2017, the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Newsletter has undergone a major transformation!
Following more than a year of planning, intensive work, and refinement, we sincerely thank the young team of Chih-Yeh and Ma-Ya. With the continued support of the National Science and Technology Council, they helped us create an updated UI/UX that reflects the reading and viewing habits of audiences across different age groups.
The sections introduced in 2017 have also been refined into four categories: Trends, Careers, Everyday Life, and Resonance. We welcome everyone to connect with the editorial team through the new website. As this issue’s guest editor and TWiST board member, Wei-Chen Tu, invites us to do, let us celebrate “Discovering Your Best Self Through Everyday Technology.”

They are scientists conducting focused research in laboratories, engineers working in the technology industry, managers leading teams, physicians protecting people’s health, and mothers caring for their families after returning home. They move between different roles—not because they must be perfect, but because they believe that every effort can benefit others.
The four articles in this issue may appear to address different areas of technology, but they all focus on the same thing: people.
In How Parents Can Help Children Manage Internet and Digital Device Use, we learn that technology is not only a tool for innovation but also an important issue in family education. What truly matters is not simply restricting children’s use of digital devices, but accompanying them as they learn to live with technology and develop sound judgment, responsibility, and the courage to face an uncertain world.
The Power of Technology Opens a New Chapter in Aesthetic Medicine demonstrates that technology’s value lies not only in driving industrial innovation but also in protecting health, respecting individuality, and improving quality of life. When precision instruments, medical expertise, and innovative technologies come together, beauty gains a more diverse definition. Medicine also returns to its original purpose of caring for people and helping them regain confidence and ease in their daily lives.
In Silicon Valley’s Constant Change, Curiosity Remains the Force Behind Personal Growth explains that in a rapidly changing world, the one ability that will never become obsolete is the desire to keep learning and exploring the unknown. In Silicon Valley, innovation is driven not by famous company names but by people who remain curious. They repeatedly step beyond their comfort zones because they understand that learning never ends and change is the only constant.
Finally, Thank You to the Courageous Self Who Persevered: A Letter to Women in Technology encourages us to remember that growth comes from all the days when we refused to give up. Perhaps you have doubted yourself, felt discouraged by failure, or carried pressures alone late at night that no one else knew about. But never forget that every past experience has helped shape the person you are today. Let us applaud every woman who continues moving forward on her journey in technology.
Throughout its journey, the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Newsletter has documented more than technological progress—it has recorded the paths women have created within the currents of their time. With every technological breakthrough, we hope to see women represented and to feel the warmth of human care.
When we look back, perhaps what deserves our greatest pride is not how fast or how far we have traveled, but that we have never forgotten why we began. Nor have we forgotten that, as we work to change the world, our perseverance can inspire others to take their own courageous steps forward.
