We are sharing the following research participant recruitment information.

Associate Professor Cheng-Hao Sung of the Institute of Education and Center for Teacher Education at National Sun Yat-sen University is conducting a Hakka Affairs Council-funded research project titled “Moving Forward at the Intersections: Life Experiences and Cultural Resilience of Hakka Women in Higher Education STEM Fields.” The research team is currently recruiting eligible participants.

About the Research

Centering on the life experiences of Hakka women, this study uses one-on-one, in-depth interviews to explore how Hakka culture, family experiences, gender roles, educational choices, and learning and professional development in STEM or STEM-related fields intersect throughout participants’ lives.

Interview topics may include family and childhood background, experiences of Hakka culture, educational and professional journeys, significant career and life transitions, and how participants understand their identities as women, Hakka people, and professionals.

Eligibility

The research team is seeking participants who meet the following criteria:

  • Currently identify as women, regardless of sex assigned at birth.

  • Identify as Hakka, have Hakka ancestry or connections, or—without direct Hakka ancestry—have been strongly influenced by Hakka cultural values through family life and socialization.

  • Currently work in a STEM or STEM-related field at a university, college, research institution, or other professional setting in Taiwan.

  • Are willing to share experiences related to their upbringing, education, work, career development, family culture, and significant life events.

STEM and Related Fields

For this study, STEM includes:

  • Science

  • Technology

  • Engineering

  • Mathematics

It also includes fields closely connected to STEM knowledge, teaching, research, or talent development, such as science education, mathematics education, technology education, engineering education, STEM/STEAM education, educational technology, digital learning, and AI education.

If you are unsure whether your professional field falls within the scope of this study, please contact the research team directly.

Participation

The study involves a one-on-one, in-depth interview lasting approximately one to two hours. The interview time and location will be arranged jointly by the researcher and participant.

Before the formal interview, the researcher will explain the study’s purpose and procedures, audio recording, use of collected information, and participants’ rights. Interviews will be recorded only with the participant’s consent. Participants may decline to answer any question and may pause or withdraw from the study at any time.

Interview transcripts and research data will be de-identified. Published findings will not contain information that could identify individual participants.

Honorarium

Participants will receive an honorarium of NT$2,000 for each completed formal interview. A separate honorarium will be provided if a follow-up interview is required.

Registration and Contact Information

Interested participants are invited to complete the online registration form.
