Women’s Leadership in Technology Roundtable Forum Held at I-Shou University

Kaohsiung — The Women’s Leadership in Technology Roundtable Forum was successfully held at I-Shou University from June 21 to 22. The forum was chaired by Professor Ching-Fen Jiang, a member of the Chinese Institute of Engineers’ Women Engineers Committee and Dean of the College of Medical Science and Technology at I-Shou University. It was co-organized by the Chinese Institute of Engineers and the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Association (TWiST).

Designed as an in-depth exchange platform for senior women leaders in academia, the closed-door forum brought together approximately 15 current and former provosts, deans of student affairs, college deans, and department chairs from universities across northern, central, and southern Taiwan. Participants shared administrative experience and insights into balancing work and personal life.

On the first day, Wen-Chen Hsueh, Chair of the CIE Women Engineers Committee, delivered the opening remarks. She discussed women’s roles in driving innovation, transformation, and sustainable development, and shared how the committee strategically incorporated gender issues into its work while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on gender equality. The Department of Culinary Arts and Hospitality at I-Shou University prepared a special luncheon, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Participants then toured the university’s technology demonstration facilities, including the Metaverse Technology, Art and Design Center, LED virtual production studio, VR experiences, and Smart Technology Innovation Center.

The second day focused on three key themes:

• Resources: Government and university support for women researchers and areas requiring improvement

• Partnerships: Challenges and response strategies in promoting STEM

• Talent Development: The journey from being led to becoming a leader, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and partnerships

The forum successfully promoted knowledge exchange among senior women leaders in academia while further advancing gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in science and technology.
