On September 27, the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Association (TWiST) and National Sun Yat-sen University jointly held the “IDG@Taiwan 2024—SDG × IDG Workshop Series” at CTBC Hall in the university’s Alumni Center. Under the theme “Co-creating an IDEAL Campus of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion,” the workshop promoted the values of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Inner Development Goals (IDGs) while increasing awareness of gender diversity and social equality.
Exploring Gender Issues
The event opened with remarks from NSYSU President Chih-Peng Li. Experts including Professor Ching-Li Yang from the Department of Sociology and Professor Chia C. Wang from the Department of Chemistry and Aerosol Science Research Center shared their perspectives on gender equality.
Discussions covered gender diversity, women’s participation in STEM, and the prevention of gender-based violence. Music and dance activities also encouraged participants to reflect more deeply on the meaning of gender equality.
Creating an IDEAL and Inclusive Environment
The workshop promoted the IDEAL values of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Appreciation, and Love, encouraging a more welcoming and inclusive environment both on and beyond campus. Through seminars and panel discussions, participants exchanged knowledge and experiences while strengthening awareness of gender equality.
Positive Results with 60 Participants
Approximately 60 people from diverse backgrounds participated, regardless of gender. Online platforms, promotional materials, and presentations were also used to extend the event’s reach and raise public awareness of gender diversity.
The workshop supported SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, while demonstrating academia’s leadership in advancing these goals. TWiST and National Sun Yat-sen University will continue working together to promote gender equality, social inclusion, and global sustainable development.
