2024 TWiST General Assembly: AI-Powered, Women Empowered - Opening a New Chapter in the Digital Era
On November 25, 2024, the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Association (TWiST) held its Annual General Meeting at National Chung Hsing University in Taichung. Under the theme “AI-Powered, Women Empowered,” the event brought together outstanding women from academia and industry to explore AI’s legal risks, its role in smart-city development, and the opportunities and challenges it presents for women in technology.

The first keynote speaker, Professor Chih-Chieh Lin of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, presented “Legal Risk Management in the Technology Era.” She examined the legal challenges surrounding AI and financial technology while emphasizing privacy protection and gender equality.
The second speaker, Professor Hsun-Ping Hsieh of National Cheng Kung University, presented “AI City Heroes: Opportunities and Challenges in Smart Governance.” He discussed applications of AI in intelligent transportation, energy management, and environmental monitoring to create more efficient and livable cities. Both presentations demonstrated the power of technological innovation and highlighted women’s essential role in advancing gender equality and social progress.
Diverse Exchanges and New Opportunities for Women in Technology
The meeting included a networking session where members from academia and industry discussed ways to create more supportive environments and opportunities for women in technology. Participants noted that smart-city development offers women new professional platforms, while transparent AI systems and stronger legal protections can better safeguard their rights and security in the digital era.
Looking Ahead: Empowering a New Generation of Women in Technology
Through practical discussions and interdisciplinary collaboration, the 2024 TWiST Annual General Meeting demonstrated the innovative value of women in technology.
In her closing remarks, the TWiST President emphasized: “AI empowers more than technology—it empowers the unlimited potential of women. We will continue advancing gender equality so that every woman in technology can become a leading figure of our time.”
