Lecture Abstract
The New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) is an innovative higher education institution in the UK. Since welcoming its first students in 2021, NMITE has challenged conventional approaches to engineering education, developing a new model for preparing the next generation of engineering and technology professionals while seeking to enhance the positive impact of modern science and engineering practice on society.
NMITE’s distinctive learning model combines immersive block teaching, studio-based practical learning, real-world challenges from industry, integrated learning, and co-creation with students. With two cohorts of graduates to date, NMITE has demonstrated promising outcomes from its innovative approach to education.
Mathematics has always been fundamental to engineering education. However, industry has often found that traditional teaching methods struggle to develop the flexible thinking and problem-solving skills needed in professional practice. NMITE has chosen a different path. Dr. Sarah Peers and her team have challenged long-held assumptions about engineering mathematics, rethinking its role in engineering education. In this lecture, Dr. Peers will openly share NMITE’s effective practices, the challenges encountered along the way, and future directions for this innovative approach.
An Invitation to Dialogue and Exchange
This is more than a lecture — it is an opportunity for a two-way conversation about educational innovation!
Dr. Sarah Peers looks forward to hearing local perspectives from educators and professionals in Taiwan and exchanging valuable experiences and insights. We warmly invite everyone interested in the future of engineering and STEM education to join the conversation.
