TWiST Promotes STEM Education and Inspires Female High School Students—Laser-Cut Paper Lamp Workshop Successfully Concluded
To encourage more women to enter technology fields, the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Association (TWiST) held a creative, hands-on laser-cut paper art workshop on 2024.9.28. Designed for female high school students interested in electrical engineering, the workshop introduced participants to laser cutting, paper lamp design, and Arduino programming.
Course Content and Hands-On Experience
The program consisted of two parts. First, the TWiST President introduced the association’s mission and emphasized the importance of STEM education and cultivating women in technology.
The second part focused on the Laser-Cut Paper Lamp Workshop, where students designed and created unique paper lamps, practiced laser-cutting techniques, and learned to program LED strips using Arduino.
Enthusiastic Participation and Positive Results
A total of 32 female high school students from the Hsinchu area participated. Students rated the workshop highly for overall satisfaction and its appropriate level of difficulty. Many said they gained valuable experience and hoped to attend more STEM activities or industry collaboration programs.

Impact and Future Outlook
The workshop successfully introduced more young women to TWiST’s mission and the possibilities offered by technology careers while strengthening their interest in STEM. Student feedback also suggested strong interest in future university camps, industry collaborations, and experience-sharing sessions with senior students and professionals.
TWiST will continue promoting STEM courses and cultivating women in technology, empowering more female high school students to thrive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
