AI Technology and ESG Corporate Transformation: Advancing Workplace Diversity and Women’s Empowerment

Kaohsiung, Taiwan — The Women in Science and Technology AI Insights Lecture Series concluded successfully at National Sun Yat-sen University on August 23, 2024.

Organized by the Taiwan Women in Science and Technology Association (TWiST), the forum promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in corporate digital transformation while strengthening women’s workplace roles. Two presentations explored how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming businesses and creating opportunities for women.

Lecture 1: AI Technology and Emerging Roles for Women—The Lisa Su Example

Consultant Jui-Sui Sun introduced recent AI developments and their applications in reducing labor costs and improving workplace efficiency. Through practical examples, she explained AI’s impact on employment and how women can strengthen their competitiveness.

Sun also highlighted Dr. Lisa Su as a technology pioneer and advocate for diversity and inclusion. Her achievements have inspired more women to pursue STEM careers and provided an important role model for the technology industry.

Lecture 2: How AI Can Advance Corporate DE&I

Director Yu-Hsuan Chung discussed AI’s role in promoting gender equality and corporate DE&I. AI is increasingly used in recruitment to reduce human bias, analyze employees’ skills, and provide personalized career-development recommendations, including leadership training and technical courses.

Chung also introduced international platforms demonstrating how measurable and practical AI tools can be applied to business operations.

Face-to-Face Exchange and Practical Experiences

Ms. Huang, an executive board member of the Greater Kaohsiung Chapter of the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women, shared her experience of beginning an EMBA program at age 65. Drawing on her success in managing the Red Ant footwear business, she encouraged women to continue learning and pursue greater professional and academic achievements.

Vice President Hsiu-Fen Tsai also reminded participants: “Sixty-five is only a physical age. We should always maintain a learning mindset and prepare ourselves for future challenges.”

The event demonstrated how AI can support gender equality and corporate DE&I. Holding the forum in Kaohsiung also promoted regional inclusion and attracted participants from diverse industries and backgrounds.

Through interdisciplinary learning and face-to-face discussion, participants gained a deeper understanding of workplace AI applications. The forum encouraged women to develop new skills, strengthen their competitiveness, and create more opportunities during technological transformation.
