Although barriers to education for female students have decreased over time, the “leaky pipeline” remains significant: women’s participation declines as career levels rise. Because society often places different expectations on different genders, women scientists continue to face gender-specific challenges throughout their careers.
Initiated by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the 2023 Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) will be held at Sizihwan Beach Resort, National Sun Yat-sen University, on February 14.
This year’s theme is “Breaking Barriers in Science,” supporting the United Nations’ International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD 2022). Under this theme, the event will explore the important roles of feminine characteristics in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Inner Development Goals (IDGs).
The event will also launch the Chia-Li Wu Female Chemist Career Development Award Project and feature cross-generational mentor–mentee group discussions. These exchanges aim to promote greater diversity and gender equality in academia.
You are warmly invited to join us in southern Taiwan. Men who are interested in these topics are also welcome to participate!
